Which works are contained in the Khardzhiev collection?
The Khardzhiev collection comprises literary and cultural-historical archive material and a small library. The Khardzhiev collection – a selection of which you can view here – also contains paintings, works on paper and manuscripts by influential avant-garde artists. The most famous works in the collection include ‘Suprematism of the mind’ by Kazimir Malevich (1919) and ‘Rayonist Sea’ by Natalia Goncharova (1912-1913). The extremely comprehensive collection of drawings and sketches by artists like Malevich, Larionov and Kljoen provides crucial insights into their artistic development. The collection of work on paper is of major art-historical interest, and in terms of scope and scale it is one of the most important collections of Russian avant garde material outside Russia.
