To preserve and make the collection accessible, Nikolai Khardzhiev established the Khardzhiev-Chaga Cultural Center Foundation in Amsterdam, of which he became the first director. The foundation's goal was to safeguard and keep together the couple's collection. According to Khardzhiev's will, the collection was bequeathed to the foundation, which was later renamed the Khardzhiev Foundation. You can read more about the history of the foundation here.

Since 1998, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam has been responsible for managing the collection. With the support of the Khardzhiev Foundation, the museum makes the collection accessible to a wider audience through exhibitions, publications, and symposia organized in collaboration with the foundation. Three exhibitions of works from the collection have been held at the Stedelijk Museum, from November 14, 1997, to January 26, 1998, from January 27 to May 6, 2001, and from October 19, 2013, to February 2, 2014. Through the Stedelijk Museum, the foundation has also frequently collaborated on loans from the collection in recent years, including to Paris, Berlin, and New York.
